Short version: we may get paid when you buy through some of our links, and we would rather tell you that than leave you guessing.
How the money works
Some links on this site go to products or services run by other companies. If you click one and make a purchase or start a subscription, the company may pay us a commission. It costs you nothing extra. Pages with such links carry a note saying so.
Who our main partner is
Our primary affiliate partner is MyHeritage, which offers family-tree building, record matching and DNA testing. We list it first when we compare options because it is the partner we earn from and because we think it fits many people starting out. We say so openly, and we say when another product may be a better fit for a specific question.
Rules we follow when recommending anything
- We describe what a product does and does not do, and we do not invent reviews, ratings or testimonials.
- Facts about laws, archives and fees come from official or primary sources and carry a date when they can change.
- A commission never changes what we write about records, rules or law.
- If we offer our own free or paid downloads, we label them as ours.
What stays link-free
Archives, government pages, FamilySearch and other free or public resources appear in our guides as sources. We do not attach affiliate links to them.
This is information, not advice
Our guides are informational. They are not legal, financial or professional advice, and they do not replace the official pages they cite.
